Focusing on the Republic of Estonia, this museum highlights the nation's birth and 20th-century struggles for freedom.
The museum is set in the seaside Maarjamäe Palace, near the Pirita promenade, and its extensive displays tell the story of the origin, development, occupation and second independence of the republic.
The museum’s courtyard is full of removed, Soviet-era monuments, offering an unusual way to look at sculpture art.
Also at the palace is the Estonian Film Museum's pop-up exhibition 'Here We Are!” created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Estonian film. Here, visitors can learn the history of the film production process as well as hear interviews with directors and famous songs from Estonian films. The exhibition is open through August 31, 2015.
Through May 31, 2015, another exhibit entitled 'Electricity is in the Air – From Luxury to Everyday' tells the story of how electricity first made its way into the lives of Estonians in the 1920s and the kinds of appliances used in times past.
